Emergency medicine specializes in treating conditions that pose a threat to life. Therefore, the emergency physician requires a broad field of knowledge and advanced procedural skills often including surgical procedures, trauma resuscitation and advanced cardiac life support. In order to provide patients with a lower cost and waiting time option in receiving their care, E.M.S. chose to open urgent care/walk-in clinics.
Urgent care clinics treat those conditions that require immediate care to prevent serious deterioration of the patient's health. These conditions usually follow illness or injury, such as minor lacerations or sprained ankles. Walk-in care focuses on those patients who seek car for non-urgent medical conditions, such as sore throats, colds or sinus infections.
Both options allow patients the distinct advantage of being cared for by emergency medicine-trained providers outside of an emergency department. Added benefit to receiving immediate care is on-site radiology and laboratory services to assist in a quick and accurate diagnosis.
